Over seventy vintage airplanes were displayed at the Planes of Fame Airshow at Chino over the weekend of April 29-30, 2016.

Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIV NX749DP, April 29, 2016 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIV NX749DP was delivered to 33 MU in Febraury 1945 abd then transferred to Air Command Southeast Asia. Its construction number is NH749. It was transferred to the Indian Air Force on December 31, 1947. It was utilized as instructional airframe "T3"/Code 54. Ormond & Wensley Haydon-Baillie of Duxford, United Kingdom recovered it from Patna Air Base, India in 1977. Alan W. & Keith W. Wickenden of Cranfield acquired it on April 11, 1980 and registered it as G-MXIV. It first flew after restoration on April 9, 1983. David G. Price of Portland, Oregon acquired it on March 4, 1985 and registered it as N749DP. It was rebuilt at Chino and flew again on July 24, 1985. It flies as Royal Air Force H749/L. American Airpower Heritage Flying museum registered it in 2012.

Vought F4U-1A Corsair NX83782, April 29, 2016 Vought F4U-1A Corsair NX83782 is registered to the Planes of Fame Museum at Chino, California. It is the oldest airworthy Corsair. It flew for the Navy as Buno 17799 and still carries that number on its tail. It was used as a movie prop by MGM Studios. The Ontario Air Museum acquired it in 1970. It was restored to airworthy condition in 1977. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine.

Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat N7825C, April 29, 2016 Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat N7825C flew for the US Navy as BuNo 122674. Its Grumman construction number is D.1227. It was built in 1948. E. Weiner of Los Angeles registered it under its current tail number in 1958. It was bought by Leo Demeers of Aurora, Oregon in 1963. Richard Tobey of Newport Beach, California in acquired it in 1966 and then sold it to Paul Finefrock of Hobart, Oklahoma in 1969. Gary Levitz picked it up later that year. It has belonged to the Confederate Air Force since 1972. It underwent a major rebuild from 1989 to 1991. It made its first flight after the rebuild on December 17, 1991. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine.

North American SNJ-5 Texan N2550, April 29, 2016 North American SNJ-5 Texan N2550 was ordered by the Army Air Force as 41-34418 and then transferred to the Navy as BuNo 43683. Its construction number is 88-15348. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1340 9-cylinder radial engine. It has been registered to John Anson since June 9, 2000.

Aichi D3A Val replica NX67629, April 29, 2016 Aichi D3A Val replica NX67629 is a modified Consolidated-Vultee BT-15 that was sold to the civilian market in the 40's. It was modified to represent a Japanese Val for the 1969 movie Tora Tora Tora. The modification consisted of an extra 3 feet of fuselage added between the rear cockpit and the tail, a large fiberglass dorsal fin, raised sides of the fuselage and lower canopies. The modifications also incorporated large fiberglass wheel pants. Its Wright R-975 engine was replaced with a Pratt and Whitney R-1340. After the movie was completed the Val was sold to the San Diego Aerospace Museum. The Planes of Fame Museum acquired the Val back in 1973. It was returned to airworthy condition for the Disney Pearl Harbor film.

Curtiss P-40K Warhawk N401WH, April 29, 2016 Curtiss P-40K Warhawk N401WH was ordered by the Army Air Force as 42-10256. It was transferred to the Soviet Air Force by way of Alaska. It was shot down while fighting with four Messerschmitt Bf 109s on September 29, 1943. It made a gear up landing near Murmansk on the Kola Peninsula. The wreck was recovered in 1993. Kenneth Hake of Tipton, Kansas worked on its restoration. It was transferred to Ron J. Fagen of Granite Falls, Minnesota in 2004, restored to airworthy condition, and registered it N401WH. It made its first flight after restoration on May 30, 2006. Its tail number is 210256. It has been registered to Aleutian Tiger LLC of Dover, Delaware since January 28, 2011. It is powered by an Allison V-1710 twelve-cylinder engine.

General Motors FM-2 Wildcat N5HP Kimberly Brooke, April 29, 2016 General Motors FM-2 Wildcat N5HP Kimberly Brooke was felivrered to the US Nvy as BuNo 86777. I.N "Junior" Burchinall of Paris, Texas acquired it in December 1974 and registered it as N90541. Howard E. Pardue of Breckinridge, Texas bought it in December 1980 and registered it as N5HP. It flies as as USN #5.

Kreitzberg Aviation of Salem, Oregon registered it as N6129C. Johnson Flying Service of Missoula, Montana bought it in 1963 and sold it to Calvin J. Butler and Butler Farm Air Service of Redmond, Oregon. It flew as tanker #F16 and later as tanker #16. TBM Incorporated of Tulare, California flew it as tanker #E62 from 1969 to 1978. Harold Beal and On Mark Aviation of Knoxville, Tennessee acquired it in November 1978 and sold it to Preston Parish and the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum in Michigan in March 1980. Its registration was changed to N700F. Air Training Incorporated of Knoxville, Tennessee bought it in January 1981 and delivered it to the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum in March 1985. It was registered to Lewis Aeronautical LLC on October 24, 2008. It has been registered to Lewis Racing LLC since November 8, 2010.

Ed Jurist and David C. Tallichet of Orlando, Florida recovered it from Iraq and registered it N26SF in 1979. John J. Dowd of Syracuse, Kansas acquired it on January 28, 1988. Walter C. Bowe registered it as N97SF on May 12, 2014. It is powered by a Bristol Centaurus eighteen-cylinder, radial engine.

Stewart Aviation Incorporated of Moses Lake, Washington acquired it in 1984 and sold it to Danny Summers and Summers Farm and Ranch Incorporated of Sugar City, Iaho in May 1990. It made its first flight after restoration in 1996. It has been registered to Avenger 41 LLC since November 10, 2014. It is powered by a Wright R-2600 Twin Cyclone two-bank, 14-cylinder radial engine.

It has been registered to the Palm Srings Air Museum since April 23, 1999. It was recently restored in the colors of the Tuskeegee Airmen.

Lockheed P-38J Lightning NX138AM 23 Skidoo, April 29, 2016 Lockheed P-38J Lightning NX138AM 23 Skidoo is registered to the Air Museum at Chino. It was built as Army Air Corps 44-23314. It was acquired by the Hanfield School of Aeronautics in Santa Maria, California in 1950. Jack Hardwicke of El Monte, California registered it as N29Q in 1954. He sold it to the Air Museum in Ontario, California in 1960 where it sat on static display for seventeen years. It was restored to flying condition, making its first flight on July 22, 1988. It then went to the Planes of Fame East museum in Minnesota. Bob Pond purchased it in October 1989 and registered it as N38BP. It returned to the Air Museum at Chino in 1998. It is powered by a pair of Allison V-1710 twelve-cylinder engines.

I has been registered to the Liberty Aero Corporation since February 1998. Its Mitsubishi construction number is 3869. It was found on New Guinea near the town of Babo. Its restoration was begun in Russia and completed in the United States. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1830 radial engine.

Maytag of Van Nuys, California acuired it in 1962. David Maytag of Colorado Springs, Colorado registered it as N332 in 1963 and flew it as race #9. David Zeuschel of Van Nuys, bought it in 1968. James Barkley of Arizona acquired it in 1979. It suffered an in flight structural failure and crashed near Borrego Springs, California killing Barkly on August 21, 1979. Alan Preston Air Racing Team of Dallas, Texas acquired the wreckage on September 7, 1984. It was rebuilts as a modified racer incorprating the fuselage of Israeli Defense Force Air Force #69 and wing of Israeli Defense Force Air Force #28. The racer had a cut down fuselage and the radiator was moved to the leading edge of the wing. It flew as #8 Stilleto. Sherman Aircraft Sales of West Palm Beach, Florida acquired it in 1987 and sold it to Liberty Aero Corp and Museum Of Flying at Santa Monica, California in November 1989. It was restored to stock TF-51D configuration, making its first flight after restoration on Febraru 25, 2997. It flew as 511471 Rajun Cajun. David Jeansonnie of Lafayette, Louisiana registered it as N270MS on May 1997. Bob Jepson and Lady Alice Corporation of Savannah, Georgia registered it as N51VW on August 5, 1998 and then as N51UR in July 1999. It flies as Diamond Back. It has been registered to Mustang High Fl;ight LLC since December 19, 2005. It is powered by a Packard manufactured V-1650 Merlin 12-cylinder engine.

Curtiss P-40N Warhawk NL85104 flew for the Army Air Corps as 42-105192. It was delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force as 858. Fred Dyson bought it and 42-106396 at Boeing Field, Seattle, Washington on October 23, 1947. It was owned by W. Bridges in Jackson, Mississippi from 1952 to 1954. Louis Rice of Marysville, California bought it in 1954 and very quickly sold it to Richard Rowlette of Riverside, California. Walter Brockin, also of Riverside, acquired it in 1955 nd then sold it to W. Keith Larkin of Weather Modification Company in San Jose, California. It was damaged in a wheels up landing near Denver, Colorado in 1958. The Air Museum in Ontario restored it to static display condition in 1959. Restoration of the airframe was begun in 1977. It made its first flight after restoration in 1981, when it acquired its current registration. It is powered by an Allison V-1710 twelve-cylinder engine.

This Mustang has adopted the identity of the Red Baron RB-51 racer, once the fastest piston powered aircraft in the world. Its original serial was 44-84961, but it carries 413334 on its tail. The Air Force disposed of it at McClellan Air Force Base, California in 1958. It was purchased by Capitol Airways of Nashville, Tennessee and registered as N7715C. In July 1964 it was acquired by Charles Willis Jr., Frank Lynitt, and Charles Hall of Seattle, Washington. They raced it as #5, first named "Red Baron", then "Miss RJ". Gunther Balz of Kalamazoo, Michigan bought it in July 1971 and changed its name to "Roto-Finish", keeping race number 5. John Sliker of Wadley, Georgia picked it up in October 1973, but sold it to Ed Browning of Brownings Incorporated in Idaho Falls the following February. Brownings Inc. installed a Rolls Royce Griffon engine with contra-rotating propellers and called it the "Red Baron" RB-51. It first flew with the Griffon engine on March 6, 1975. It set the world's piston engined speed record of 499.018 miles per hour on August 14, 1979. It crashed with Steve Hinton at the controls at the Reno Air Races that September. Hinton survived the crash. Richard Ransofer of Grapevine, Texas acquired the wreckage in 1980. Steve Hinton and Fighter Rebuilders at Chino transferred the dataplate and probably a small section of the fuselage of the "Red Baron" wreck to P-51D, 44-73053 to reconstruct "Wee Willy II". It first flew after reconstruction in September 1985. Some of the hulk of the RB-51 was acquired by Terry and Bill Rogers of Sherman, Texas in 1989 to be used in another Griffon powered race conversion, but Rogers' efforts were diverted into the rebuilding of Vendetta into Miss Ashley II.

Wings from another SBD were recovered from Guadalcanal to return this Dauntless to flying condition in 1987. It flew its first flight after reconstruction on February 7, 1987. It has been registered to the Air Museum since July 29, 1988. It is powered by a Wright R-1820 radial engine.
